Web Design
NottsHive, 2024
A vibrant, brand-aligned website designed for students to easily explore, sign up for, and engage with volunteering opportunities that match their interests, creating a seamless and inviting experience for community involvement.
Timeline:
September - October 2024
Tools:
Figma, Google Forms
Role:
Web Designer
The goal of this project was to completely redesign a volunteering website to create a modern, visually engaging platform that aligns with the brand’s guidelines.
The redesign focused on incorporating vibrant, brand-consistent colors and improving the navigation to provide a seamless experience for students interested in volunteering, making it easier and more enjoyable for them to explore opportunities.
Previous Design Situation

-
Overwhelming Choices with No Clear Differentiation: Students struggle to understand the differences between opportunities, leading to confusion and decision fatigue.
-
Broken or Circular Links Creating Navigation Frustration: Multiple links either send users in loops or lead to dead pages, disrupting the user journey and creating frustration.
-
Generic, Repetitive Imagery Diminishing Engagement: Using the same images for every opportunity makes the platform feel stale and uninviting.
-
Lack of Search, Filtering, and Sorting Capabilities: Users struggle to find relevant information without features to narrow down opportunities.

Outcomes
The redesign, which embraced bento box and modular design trends, contributed to a noticeable boost in organic traffic and user retention.
My design work led to an 18.73% increase in engaged sessions by optimising user flows and integrating accessible, user-friendly design elements.
Usability testing and iterative improvements based on user feedback enhanced the experience across devices, with responsive layouts guided by Fitts' Law streamlining navigation.
Learnings
This was my first time designing with a bento box layout, and it was incredibly rewarding to see students enjoying the new website. They appreciated the modern look and how all essential information was centralised in one place.
I also learned that design is never an isolated process — collaborating with multiple teams provided valuable insights that shaped the final outcome. Iterating extensively based on feedback helped refine the experience, reinforcing the importance of continuous testing and adaptation.
